One of the icons that defines Oregon is our beautiful Oregon Coast. The splendor and natural beauty are unmatched. But the preservation of that beauty doesn’t just happen. It takes the shared vision, hard work, and partnership of many people working together to preserve that beauty for future generations.
Over the course of 22 years, more than 144,000 volunteers have removed over 800 tons of solid waste from our cherished coastline as a part of the Great Oregon Beach Cleanups coordinated by SOLV.

Imagine for a moment what might be if SOLV had not been there. Imagine how different our coastline and its communities would look. Imagine the impact on wildlife. Imagine the impact on you.

SOLV programs extend far past the beautiful Oregon coast and into every corner of our spectacular state. Did you know that the beach cleanups account for less than 10% of SOLV’s statewide volunteer activities? The photos on these pages show just a few of the things volunteers accomplished over the last year.

But the hard, plain truth is that despite the efforts of these volunteers, there is still so much more work that must get done.

The economic downturn has left communities across the state struggling to bring resources to bear on many serious problems. As a result, demand for SOLV programs outstrips our current resources. One of the hardest jobs for our staff is turning away people and communities we cannot serve. Even more troubling is that this demand will most likely continue to grow. While the task may seem daunting to some, we have a plan for how to meet the needs and challenges and how to take advantage of the opportunities. After all, building stronger communities through volunteer action is our mission; it is the reason we are in business.

If we are to fund future community improvement projects we must build SOLV’s membership. The money raised will help fuel the critical work that lies ahead. Our plan breaks down like this: People + Tools + Action = Results. More money raised means more tools for more volunteers to get more work done now, and in the future.
